I used to go religiously to a hot yoga or Bikram yoga class once a week during these cold months, but I had not been since 2020 when Covid hit. I finally went to a hot yoga class today, and realized how much I really missed this style of yoga.
First off, it's 84 degrees in the room. It is getting down to 30 degrees right now in Seattle, so I love being in that sort of heat. I also love the fact that there is not a single chaturanga in this class, which is so different than other types of yoga. My wrists needed a break! It was a challenge for my balance, and the class is an hour and a half long. I understand that it's not for everyone, and yet my body really liked it. My goal was to show up and do the best I could in each pose and breathe through the discomfort. I rested when I needed and drank lots of water, and I made it! It was so good for my soul as well. I wear a sports bra and shorts to class, so I could see all of my body. I realized how much I don't look at my body these days (with menopause and all), and I thanked my body for everything it has done for me. I'm so grateful for the process it has taken me through- from being overweight to being a fitness competitor, to later having and feeding a baby. Wow. It also reminded me of my friend, Osiris, who has passed. He's the one who introduced me to this type of yoga. He left me a give that I will cherish. Thank you, Osiris! If you have not tried it before, I recommend, Junction Hot Yoga. Or look for one close to you, and keep trying different types of training. All of it is not only good for your body, but also good for your soul!
